How much capital do you need?

AurumWave Gold sizes its trades from the account balance, so the starting amount decides how hard the same trades hit you. Here is what each tested starting balance did. Amounts are account units: in a standard account one unit is one dollar, in a cent account it is one US cent.

Every row is one MetaTrader 5 test, 12 months of XAUUSD H1 on real ticks, with the same settings. The same EA gave different numbers on different brokers' data, so treat each row as one example, not a promise.

Why the starting balance matters

The base lot is 0.01 for every 5,000 units of balance, and never below the broker minimum of 0.01. So below 10,000 units the EA cannot trade smaller than 0.01: a 2,000 balance trades 2.5 times bigger, relative to its size, than a 10,000 balance does. Bigger balances scale the lot up in steps and keep the risk in proportion.

Cent or standard account?

A cent account counts the same balance in cents. 10,000 USC is $100, yet the EA treats it like a $10,000 standard account and trades the same lots on the cent symbol. The percentages are the same and the dollars at risk are 100 times smaller. That makes a cent account a low-cost way to watch the EA with real money before you scale up.

Expect small differences between account types: spreads, execution and swap are the broker’s, and a cent account is not a guarantee of the same result.

21 Oct to 23 Oct 2025

Why the profit looks the way it does

  • Many small wins, a few larger losses. 81% of trades won, averaging $10.47, while the average loss was $24.85. The edge comes from win rate, not from the size of each win.
  • Losses come in clusters. The tester’s Z-score is -17.46, which means wins and losses arrive in runs. The longest losing run was 10 trades ($845.60). Plan for a bad stretch, not an even spread.
  • Trades are short. Average holding time is 3 hours 49 minutes, longest about 7 days. 3,023 of 3,120 trades closed at their take-profit.
  • Built-in protections shaped the result. The volatility filter, the spread cap, the Friday cutoff and the group loss limit were all active in this run.

Run the same test yourself

You do not have to take our word for it. The free demo EA works in the Strategy Tester, so you can repeat these tests before paying anything.

  1. Open MetaTrader 5 with a demo account. Real-tick history comes from your broker, so use the same server as the run you want to match. The same EA on a different broker’s data gave +$7,964 (profit factor 1.46) from the same 2,000 start, which is why the server is listed for every run.
  2. Get the EA and copy it into your MQL5 → Experts folder. Get the free demo EA or choose a plan. Use the free demo EA or any plan: all builds trade the same way.
  3. Open the Strategy Tester (Ctrl+R) and set: Expert AurumWave Gold; Symbol XAUUSD; Timeframe H1; Date custom 2025.10.01 to 2026.09.30; Forward No; Modelling every tick based on real ticks; Deposit the start amount of the run you want (2,000); Leverage 1:500; Optimisation disabled.
  4. Load our settings. On the Inputs tab, right-click, choose Load and pick the preset file below. The table underneath lists every value. Other rules, such as the volatility filter, are built into the EA and are not settings.
  5. Press Start and compare with the numbers above. Small differences are normal: they come from your broker’s tick history.

Questions people ask about these results

What starting balance does AurumWave Gold need?
There is no fixed minimum in the software. The backtests above started from 2,000. Below 10,000 units the EA uses the broker’s minimum lot of 0.01, which is large for a small balance, and the 2,000 test saw an equity drawdown of 41.1%. Choose a balance you can leave untouched through a drop of that size.
What is the difference between a cent account and a standard account for this EA?
A cent account counts the same balance in cents, so 10,000 USC is $100. The EA sizes its trades from the balance number, so a 10,000 USC cent account trades like a $10,000 standard account, with the dollar risk 100 times smaller. Spreads, execution and swap still depend on the broker.
Is the backtest result guaranteed?
No. A backtest replays history. Live trading adds slippage, requotes and wider spreads in fast markets, and results differ between brokers. Past and simulated results do not guarantee future results, and you can lose more than you deposit.
How big was the worst drawdown?
In the 2,000 test the balance fell 39.5% from a peak at worst, and equity fell as much as 41.1% while trades were open. Both are shown in full on this page.
Do the free demo, subscription and Lifetime builds give the same result?
All builds use the same trading engine. Only the licence check differs. In our tests the demo, subscription and Lifetime builds produced the same results over the same period and settings.
Can I repeat this backtest myself?
Yes. Use the same symbol, timeframe, dates, deposit and leverage, load the preset file from this page, and run MetaTrader 5’s Strategy Tester on real ticks. Small differences are normal because every broker’s tick history differs.
Are costs included in the result?
Swap is included (−$187.55 in the 2,000 test) and commission was $0.00 on this account type. Spread comes from the recorded ticks. The tester does not model slippage.
